캐나다의 그래미상이라 할 수 있는

Juno상을 두 번이나 수상한 로리나 맥케닛은

2004년 '위니팩 포크 페스티벌'에서 평생공로상을 수상하는 등

캐나다의 국보급 뮤지션이다.

 

1957년 1월 17일 캐나다의 Morden에서

아일랜드와 스코틀랜드계 부모님 밑에서 태어났는데

그래서인지 그녀의 음악에서는 Celtic 뮤직의 냄새가 물씬 풍긴다.

토론토에 있을 때 계속해서 작곡가와 수행자로서의 수련을 했던 그녀는

Diane Sward Rapaport의 책을 읽은 후

자신의 레이블인 'Quinlan Road'을 만들었다.

이후 대부분의 작곡과 레코딩 작업을 혼자하기에 이른다.

 

그녀는 Golden Bough의 경우처럼

미국-캐나다 풍의 포크뮤직보다는 켈틱 사운드에 심취하여

여행하고, 책읽고, 다양한 악기를 연주하며 노래를 만들고 직접 제작한다.

1985년 데뷔 앨범인 [Elemental] 이후

[To Drive the Cold Winter Away](1987)과 [Parallel Dreams](1989)를 발표한

로리나 멕케닛은 멋진 라이브 공연으로 주목을 받게 되었다.

Loreena McKennitt 의 음악에는 어쩔수 없이 Celtic 뮤직의 무드가 밑바닥에 흐르고 있다.

아마도 부모의 영향을 받은 탓이라고 여겨진다.

수십곡의 음악이 모두 아름답고

최고의 수준급 목소리도 아주 아름답다
